For over 30 years, I have been lucky enough to work within the Midhurst community, and five years ago I took the leap and opened Emma O’Malley Hair & Beauty as my own salon. If I'm honest, being considered for a People's Choice Award means more to me than most awards ever could. Awards judged by industry experts are amazing because they're recognition from people you respect, but being voted for by real people? The clients, friends, team members and community who've been part of the journey holds the most value to me. I started in a salon at 11 years old on work experience and what most people saw as a Saturday job ended up changing my entire life. Hairdressing gave me direction when I needed it. It gave me confidence when I didn't have much, and opportunities I never thought I'd have... its introduced me to people who have become a huge part of my story. Because of that, I've never seen my job as just doing hair, it's always been about people. The best part of my job isn't a colour change, a haircut or even winning an award. It's watching somebody leave feeling more confident than when they arrived. It's the client who finally feels comfortable in their own skin. The people who walk in carrying the weight of the world and leave my chair a little bit lighter. I've built relationships with clients that go back over 15 years. I've celebrated engagements, weddings, babies, promotions, fresh starts and massive life changes alongside them. I've also sat with people through grief, heartbreak, illness and some of the hardest moments of their lives, and when you've looked after someone for that long, you're not just their hairdresser anymore, you're part of their story. What makes me stand out isn't that I've got everything figured out. It's probably the opposite. My clients know they'll always get honesty from me, someone who genuinely cares. They'll get somebody who wants the best result for them, even if that means having a difficult conversation instead of telling them what they want to hear. If I don't know how to do something then I will figure it out, if I'm offered a new opportunity then I will always say and immediate yes and then figure it out as I go. I love to push myself, and to do that I've had to become very comfortable with being uncomfortable. I've never had to try to be the busiest, loudest or most popular person in the room, that has always come naturally simply because I care so much about every single person that sits in my chair being the person people trust has always been my priority. The same applies to my team. One of my proudest achievements wasn't actually winning Colourist of the Year 2025, it was helping support and mentor my team member Mollie who went on to become Stylist of the Year winner herself! Watching my team realise they're capable of more than they thought they were is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. The truth is, everything I've built has come from relationships, from the clients who stayed, to the people who believed in me. The team who've grown with me, and the community that has supported me. If people choose to vote for me, I hope it's not because of an award title or a social media post, I hope it's because at some point I've made them feel valued, supported, confident or capable of more than they thought they were, just like this industry did for me.

If Being a hairdresser means a lot more to me than just creating beautiful looks for my clients. For me, it’s about making each client feel confident, recognised and comfortable in my chair. I like to prioritise building a relationship with my client, learning, listening and understanding not just what they want out of their hair appointment but about their lives, creating a personalised experience unique to them. Joining this industry from a young age has meant that a lot of my clients have grown up with me or seen me evolve into the hairdresser I am today. All of my clients receive a full one-to-one appointment, which means that I can give them my undivided attention and make the appointment about them. I always offer my clients advice and talk to them about what their long-term hair goals are and what we can do to achieve that, whilst ensuring their hair stays in good condition. Over the years, I have built a reputation for my professionalism, honesty and being transparent with my clients so that I ensure their expectations for the results are met. I ensure my work is to the highest possible standard by consistently attending both online and in-person training courses. As my client base has expanded over time, becoming increasingly diverse, I have learned to adapt my services to ensure all of my clients feel comfortable, welcomed and supported. Every client has their unique needs, which can include cultural, sensory or communication-related. To accommodate this, I sometimes use a separate room from the main salon or open evening slots to create a quieter space for clients on the spectrum who may find a busy salon overwhelming or clients with cultural needs who need a private environment. I also offer these alternatives to clients who are hard of hearing, and I ensure that I am facing the mirror where possible so that they can lip-read. I also talk all my clients through every step of the process during their appointment, so that there is no confusion about the plan. Receiving the People’s Choice Award would mean the world to me because it reflects the trust, loyalty and support of all my incredible clients who have followed me along my journey. My name is Kim Nicolé Jones and if there is one word that defines both my career and my business, it is resilience. For the last 16 years, I have built my career by continually pushing myself to grow, learn and create opportunities. Living and working on Anglesey taught me early on that opportunities do not always arrive at your door, so I actively sought them out through education, industry events and professional development across the UK. Today, I am proud to be a State Registered Senior Hairdresser, an Educator for Davines and Project Support for Fellowship Project Wales. Education has always been a huge passion of mine, and I firmly believe in raising standards, sharing knowledge and never standing still. In May 2026, I opened Evolve by Kim Nicole, an independent hair, scalp and hair loss business built around expertise, inclusivity and genuine client care. As a one-to-one salon, every client receives dedicated time, attention and support. Alongside hairdressing and colour services, I specialise in trichology, hair loss support and hair systems within a purpose-built private consultation space. However, Evolve is more than a salon. It was created during one of the most challenging periods of my life. After experiencing domestic abuse, I found myself rebuilding both personally and professionally. I also lost the premises I had worked so hard to establish my business within. At that point, I had two choices: allow those circumstances to define me or build something better. I chose to build. Rather than simply replacing what I had lost, I created the space I wish had existed when I needed it most—a space where people feel safe, supported, heard and valued. Those values now sit at the heart of Evolve. The salon welcomes all hair types, all backgrounds and all walks of life, offering services such as silent appointments, mirrorless appointments and a neurodivergent-friendly environment designed around individual needs. Beyond the salon, I am passionate about creating positive change. Alongside fundraising for DASU and providing support resources within the salon, I am currently undertaking specialist training and research to develop a new initiative launching in early 2027. Its aim is to help transform how the hair industry recognises, responds to and supports individuals affected by domestic abuse through education, awareness and informed guidance. At 31 years old, I am proud of what I have achieved, but most of all I am proud of what Evolve represents: resilience, courage and growth.
