What We Accept
We welcome submissions in the following categories:
Short fiction and flash fiction
Poetry
Creative non-fiction and essays
Visual art (Photo essays, photography, illustrations, etc.)
Interviews
Book manuscript
General Rules
Work must be original and previously unpublished
Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere
Submissions must be written in English
We accept work from Black and African writers and writers of African descent worldwide
Word Counts
These word counts are offered as guidance. A story finds its own length; we simply ask that every word earns its place.
Short fiction: up to 7,000 words
Flash fiction: up to 1,000 words
Essays/creative non-fiction: up to 4,000 words
Poetry: up to 60 lines
Formatting
Submit as a Word document (.doc or .docx) or PDF
Use a standard readable font (e.g. Times New Roman or Garamond), size 12
Double-spaced for prose; single-spaced for poetry
Response Times
We aim to respond to all submissions within 90 days.

We are drawn to work that is bold, honest, and rooted in lived experience. We have no strict theme requirements — bring us your best writing.
